9/14/08 - New remixes posted + the future.

I've posted two new Cosmicity remixes on the Cosmicity myspace page. (That page is found at: myspace.com/purecosmicity ). Neither remix is released yet, so consider them a sneak preview. ("Neighbors" is originally by the band The Long Division. "If Not Now When" is originally by the band Color Theory.)

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL NEWS:

As many of you know, my wife and I became the proud parents of a baby girl on June 29th. However, when Zoe was about 7 weeks old, she began having seizures. Since then we have spent every waking moment trying to help her - in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices. Test after test. Medicine after medicine. So far, nothing has worked to stop them. (If you want to follow this, I update regularly on Twitter, which is also reflected on my Facebook Profile.

I'm relaying this story here because these circumstances have caused me to postpone my planned September 1st official announcement of the return of Cosmicity (yes, I'm really bringing Cosmicity back) and a 2009 album called "Music For Headphones". Obviously I haven't been able to spend any significant time working on music for a while now. I did finish up the remix of "Neighbors" (new featured on the myspace page) in the middle of the night at Children's Hospital last week, but working in cracks of time like that, between tears and despair, isn't going to produce a new Cosmicity album anytime soon.

Zoe is my only real focus until we can control her seizures someway, somehow. I have faith that this will happen, and when it does, I will return to the joys of composing and recording music. Until then, enjoy these remixes, and please consider sending your healing thoughts my daughter's way. Thank you.

1/31/08 - A "video" for "Maniac"

Um... what can I say about this... Okay, if a picture is worth 1000 words, this video is worth at least a few vowel sounds. ;-) ENJOY!

PS - Like this song? It's on THE NEW ALBUM available for ORDER!

1/15/08 - ORDER PERVERSIONS RIGHT NOW!

12/16/07 - MY NEWEST BAND MEMEBER!!!

Yes, the rumors are true. Future live shows will feature myself, DJ Ginger Snapp, and...

Cosmicity Jr.!

Sara and I are having a baby! Okay, we're not really gonna name him or her Cosmicity Jr. That wouldn't really make sense since I don't even go by the name Cosmicity anymore (though I do still respond to it if someone yells "COSMICITY!" in a crowd!)

Sara is about 12 weeks along, and it has been EXTREMELY difficult to stay quiet about it this long. I'm crazy excited. Like, CRAZY excited. I can't wait to be a dad.

Now, as for you music fans who are just thinking: "Crap. No more new music from Mark..." To you, I can not lie. I know that everything people tell me about having a baby is true: it gobbles up time, and lots of things you used to have time for just don't make the cut anymore.

However, I've never seen myself as the casual rock star wannabe. I know a lot of folks who are good guitar players and used to be in a band, but once they started having kids, the guitar just sat in the basement. Sure, it's gonna be a lot harder to find the free time, but I'm gonna work hard to find it. Writing songs is what I love to do, and I just don't believe I'll be able to stop, no matter what. And I have a plan.

I've been quietly developing the concept for an album I can work on using primarily a laptop so that I can work on it during pockets when the baby's sleeping and/or during the downtime I often have at my day job. (Proof that I have said downtime: I'm typing this long entry during work hours, am I not?) I've tentatively titled the album "Music for Headphones". I actually came up with this concept before I even knew Sara was pregnant, so it shouldn't be a break in my natural artistic progression as a songwriter either. An album that isn't as quite as angry or blasted-out was inevitable after Duchess 33, I think. Not that I'm not still damn proud of and happy about D33 - I really am - but I think you'll already be able to hear the shift in my sound in all of the reworkings I did for "Perversions" (which arrived at the manufacturer just last week. Mastering and artwork are totally done - I should have it in my hands ready to sell just a couple of weeks from now!) Of course, don't go worrying I'll write an album full of mushy childrens' songs either. I will NOT pull a Jar Jar Binks on you! I will write what I feel, but the range of human emotion is wide, so you simply won't get an album full of only happy sap. I promise.

So, um, yay for babies! And yay for new albums! And yay for "Perversions" coming out in a couple of weeks! Yay all around! :-)

-m

PS - Since I definitely won't post another update until January when the album is officially on sale, I'd like to wish you all a very Happy Holiday - and I'd like to give you a little present too! I whipped up a very quick, but fun, cover of the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and posted it on my myspace page at: myspace.com/marknicholasmusic. Well, it IS a cover song, but with a decidedly nerdy twist. Hope you enjoy it!

11/29/07 - NEW ALBUM "PERVERSIONS" IS DONE

I'm finally done with "Perversions"! Ah... the sense of completion. It is awesome. (This is a little bit later than I had originally projected due to an unforeseeable family situation, but that's just the way life goes sometimes.)

The very good news is that the album is already at the mastering place being mastered as I type this. Then off to manufacturing probably sometime next week. And yes, in addition to a wide variety online distribution options, I have decided that I AM printing proper and official CDs - not hand burned CDs as originally suggested. There'll be 500 copies in those cool sleeves that are kind of like the sleeves that vinyl records go in, only CD-sized of course, with full color printing on 'em, etc.

Release date? To be on the safe side, I'm going to say the first or second week of January. It won't be any later than that... could be even sooner.

I feel really good about this album. And you may notice that I just referred to it as an album. Despite this project starting out as a shorter EP, it's now longer than my last full-length album in both time and track count, and most of the songs are such different versions from the originals that, when you listen to this all together, it feels competely new. (Not to mention "Goodnight My Love" is a totally new song, and "Maniac" and "Green California" are totally new cover songs.) I'm really very proud of this - I think it'll particularly hit home with people (particularly old Cosmicity fans) who were a little put off by the harder edged songs on Duchess 33. Anyway, I'm really excited for people to hear it.

The absolute FINAL track listing:

1. Two Sandwiches (Detroit Mix)
2. The Measure of Pleasure (Sad Bastard Mix)
3. Maniac (yes, that song from Flashdance)
4. I Wish I Wanted You (DJ Ginger Snapp's Mashup)
5. Coming Clean (Club Mix)
6. Backlash (8-Bit Mix)
7. Perverse (Original Demo)
8. Little Goth Girl (Ethereal Mix)
9. Selective Memory Loss (Pure and Simple Mix)
10. Goodnight My Love
11. Perverse (Syrian Remix)
12. Green California
13. Your Beautiful Lie (MN vs Cosmicity)

And for those of you who were following my legal struggles via my livejournal, I DID finally get licensing for California Love, so track 12 features the real deal cover of Tupac and Dr. Dre's "California Love" on the end, legal and everything. Hooray! Now to somehow pay for all of this...

(I'll post on here again the second the album is available for purchase - I promise!)

9/13/07 - NEW ALBUM COMING SOON!

ITEM #1
If you are in the Detroit area, don't miss the LIVE SHOW I'm doing at Smalls in Hamtramck on October 11th. Doors at 8:00 pm. Oh, and did I mention I'll be opening for ASSEMBLAGE 23? If you're in or even just sorta around Detroit, don't miss this!

ITEM #2
"PERVERSIONS"
A brand new "remix" album that is now so real, I'm layin' down SOLID details!

TIMELINE: Finalizing the songs October 6-20. Mastering October 20-27.

SALES DATE: Online/download availability mid-November.
This is primarily an online release only, however, there will be a physical CD run limited to 100 units, hand pressed with proper artwork and, yeah, autographed by request) available late in November.

TRACK LISTING (subject to changes and reordering):
1. Perverse (Slipping Under Remix)
2. Two Sandwiches (Proof I'm From Detroit Mix)
3. Backlash (8-bit Mix)
4. Coming Clean (Club Mix)
5. Little Goth Girl (Resurrection Mix)
6. Selective Memory Loss (Pure and Simple Mix)
7. ??? (Surprise Track)
8. The Measure of Pleasure (Sad Bastard Mix)
9. Perverse (Syrian Remix)
10. I Wish I Wanted You (DJ Ginger Snapp's Mashup)
11. Your Beautiful Lie (Mark Nicholas VS Cosmicity Mix)
12. Orange (Mark Nicholas VS Cosmicity Mix)

Half of these are completely done already (you can hear a few on my myspace page). The other half are all in-the-works. To ensure completion, I've taken a solid 2 weeks off from my day job in October, so I WILL have the time to get it all done.

Even people who don't traditionally like remixes are gonna get into this release. Only a precious few are what I'd consider "club" mixes (Perverse, Two Sandwiches and Coming Clean). Everything else is more of a reinterpretation than a remix, so really, you could look at this album as a chance to get into a song that you weren't sure you liked before. (I'm looking at you, Little Goth Girl haters!) A pessimist would say it's a chance for me to ruin a song you used to like, but that glass-is-half-empty person is already suffering from dehydration, so I think their delusional logic is pretty unreliable. Nah, I'm pretty confident this is gonna open up a lot of tracks from "Duchess 33" for those of you who only liked it in pieces, and offer more to love for those who already loved the whole thing. (Yes, all 5 of us.)

Stay psyched for what I believe will be one of the last-best releases of 2007. November will never be the same. No, really. Next year it'll be 2008. NOT the same November. This is the very last time you'll get to enjoy November 2007, so don't fuck around. Don't. Instead, do yourself a favor. Download "Perversions". After you hear it, go ahead and drop me a line. Yeah, I accept thank-you notes at info@marknicholas.org. To avoid my boring e-mail filter, make the subject line "Top 10 Reasons Why You Were So Right About Perversions Changing November Forever". Or, it'll also accept "Dear Ego-Maniacal Fuckhead..."

ITEM #3
More awesomer TV show: "Lucy, Daughter of the Devil" or "Frisky Dingo"? Discuss.

7/18/07 - IT'S ALL OVER

The live shows have passed, the promotional window for my first album "Duchess 33" is slipping away, and now it's all over. Yep. Done. Finished. Complete.

Eh, who am I kidding? It's never over. Coming very soon: The "Perverse" single. What'll be on it? Good damn question. At the very least, remixes by Syrian, Delobbo and myself. And probably some other random crap too. Not yet positive exactly how it'll be released, but expect it to be primarily an online/digital download single, with maybe a VERY short run of custom made CD-R physical copies. When? Soon. End of the summer, I'm thinking.

But then, behind that, I'm drumming up a little EP. A little something I'm currently calling "Mark Nicholas VS Cosmicity". Yeah, a short album containing - you guessed it - Cosmicity songs as covered by me. Me covering me? Yes. Exactly. When? Soon. End of the year, I'm thinking.

So, yeah. Expect the best. Forget the rest. Unless they're actually good. Then maybe you can go ahead and remember them.

But until this new stuff is released, I think you should go watch Flight Of The Conchords. Best show on TV. Go on! You won't regret it.

PS - A couple new things have appeared on the photos page. Feel free to check 'em out!

6/11/07 - LIVE SHOWS, INTERVIEW

Don't forget that you can still catch LIVE Mark Nicholas events in Baltimore and Minnapolis in June!

Baltimore, Maryland - Sat. June 16 - LIVE at The Depot
Minneapolis, Minnesota - Fri. June 29
- LIVE at Ground Zero. More info for both shows on my MYSPACE page.

In other news... if I'm not coming to a city near you, the interwebnets is here to help us stay close. REAL close. I really like you a lot. I feel like we've got a connection. Text me l8r, k?

First of all, the show we just did at IPMRadio.com (thanks to everyone who was there or listening live!) is being archived and should be available to stream as an audio or video podcast by the time you read this. So, if you missed it live, why not check it out? (Podcast doesn't mean it's only for people with iPods. Anyone with a computer can watch/hear them.

Another fun bit of bitness: I recently did an interview for Vampire Freaks that I hope you will find entertaining. If you don't, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore. My interviews are way totally hilarious. I know it's true 'cause my mom told me so. How can you not think they're funny? That's it. We definitely need some time apart. It's not me, it's you. You're humorless and I'm sad for you. I know we used to be close two paragraphs ago, but things have changed. I just don't feel that way about you anymore.

More news coming soon!

12/4/06 - IT'S FINALLY DONE!

"Duchess 33" is COMPLETE. Manufacturing has begun, and in a very short time I'll be making the formal announcement that the album is available for purchase! I couldn't be more excited. I'm afraid that I can not gurarantee that it'll be available for the holidays - the manufacturer won't make that promise - but the worst case scenario is January, and that's not too bad at all, is it? What's a few weeks here or there after more than 2 years of anticipation?

Eek. I am excited. Lots more news coming very very soon. Stay closely tuned.

9/20/06 - ON THE VERGE OF COMPLETION

The new album "Duchess 33", after almost 2 years of writing and recording, is nearly done. I'm working hard on the 10th and final track and, I've gotta tell you, I am really really proud of every song. I can't wait for you guys to hear it. And, at long last, I can honestly say that the wait won't be much longer!

Just a couple of other news items, and then I'm going straight back to work. First, a lot of people have been asking about part 2 of my online webisode series. (More than a thousand views and downloads so far. Nice!) It was, in fact, filmed at the same time as part 1, but I've been putting off further editing until the album is complete. The good news: since I'm nearly done with the album, you can expect to see Episdode 2 very soon. And truthfully, there's even MORE bizarre video where that stuff comes from, so watch out!

Also, I was recently a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for the song "Backlash". Many of you have heard the 2 minute preview of this song via MYSPACE, but the contest has posted a very nice quality full-length version, so if you'd like to take a listen, you can catch that right here --> http://www.jlsc.com/winners/2006a/finalists.php

Hmm... oh, just because it's fun to talk about... I recently sent out demo CDs to a few of my favorite indie labels. While I'm relatively confident that I'll be releasing this CD on my own newly formed record label (expect a big announcement about that next month or so), I figured, why not? It sure would be nice to be on the same roster as bands I really admire (and would want to tour and collaborate with!)

Okay, I'm switching on the synths to finish up track #10. Stay closely tuned. The album is almost here.

5/22/06 - GETTING IT DONE

Just felt an update here was due, seeing as how I've been quiet for a while. What's the deal? Well, I was out of town with my day job for about a month and a half. So, music-wise, that was a bummer. On the upside, song #8 for the new album, called "I Wish", is within a week of being complete. In my opinion, it's the cleanest-sounding track so far. Almost "Pure"-era Cosmicity meets my current sound. It's a sweet blend. (And actually, album co-producer DJ Ginger Snapp (aka my wife) says she hears the influence of Mylo-style neo-club music in there, but it's really not a club track. I think she's just talking about the clean, hard-hitting sound of the recording and the type of sounds I'm using.) So, quite soon it'll be on to song #9... whichever song that turns out to be!

Also, it's beginning to look more and more like "Duchess 33" will max-out at 11 songs. Hell, maybe even 10 if I feel 100% about the quality of all 10 of them. Not just 'cause I'm hitting an exhaustion point with this recording process, but also because I'm now beginning to have a strong need to actually complete something. I feel like I haven't creatively existed for far too long, and I now officially can't stand it when someone new discovers that I write music and says, "where can I get some of your stuff?" Why? Becuase I have to point them to Cosmicity material on iTunes or amazon... from 3, 4, 5 years ago... and that's not what I'm doing anymore. I'm not ashamed of my Cosmicity songs, just disappointed in myself for not having my new sound out there yet. And so it is time. This album must... nay... WILL be released asap.

In other other news, I will probably be going out of town again in June and this whole "asap" delusion will seem extremely foolish.

But I will not leave town until song #8 is done. I MUST keep moving forward... or I will die. And no, not like a shark or a relationship, Mister Cliche-O-Tron 3000. More like "Speed 2, Cruise Control".

Sandra Bullock is fucking brilliant in that shit.

3/28/06 - THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING

I just wanted to pop up here to remind everyone to expect the unexpected. On this website. Very soon. You won't be disappointed.

And in case you're driven strictly by cold hard facts, 7 songs for the album are now absolutely complete, and I'm well into song #8. So there's that. But really...

Excitement. Building. Tune in to your nether regions and you might even notice a slight tingling. If you do, get that checked out. And then, once you've been given a clean bill of health, get back to that excitement... and the building of that excitement... and the plump, juicy, grapfruit-sized anticipation tumor you've got growing on your badonkadonk. I won't let you down. Unless you're expecting me to deliver something other than really really stupid free entertainment (such as a cure for anticipation-fueled ass tumors.)

1/12/06 - THIS IS THE YEAR!

Would you believe me if I told you the new album was coming out THIS year. It totally is! As all of you know, I'm prone to the occasional delay due to anal retentive mixing or unforeseen out-of-town trips, but right now I'm shooting for a summer release. Even a lengthy delay wouldn't push me past fall. What does this mean. It means you've got a new album in 2006 GUARANTEE. Coolness.

Right now, I'm working on track #6 and it's called "Little Goth Girl". I wrote this song very early on in my concepting for this album (October 2004), so I've had to give it a pretty major overhaul to get it where my "new sound" is now. End results? Well, as I said, I'm still working on it, but I expect this to be one of the most surprising tracks yet. See: Marilyn Manson influence. What? Yep. (Don't worry, that doesn't mean live drums or guitar use. It's more about vocal delivery and vibe...)

In other news, we will be shooting (the photos for) the album cover this month. I'm trying to keep quiet about just what the concept is, but let's just say there's a hot female model involved... and me in some potentially compromising positions. I hope to have some sneak-peak photos posted here on this website in February just to warm up your curiosity a bit more.

Also, I'm going to be asking for help in two areas. Starting immediately, I'm looking for help from animators, especially those who like working in Flash. It's fun, short stuff to work on (NOT just lame help with my website, but not a full-length music video either), so if you've been itching to work on something amusing, drop me a line. ( info@marknicholas.org ) The other area will be remixing. In a couple of months I will be posting parts for a large-scale remix contest. Winning remixes will become the official DJ-exclusive mixes for this album, and will be distributed to DJs (and posted online for pay-download so that other fans can get them too.) If there are enough sweet remixes, they might even get compiled into a remix CD and included with the album. We'll have to wait and see on that one.

And yeah, that's about all I have. Gotta get back to my, um... I've got this scratch-off game from Subway to play. Might win a free Cold Cut Combo. GOD I hope so. Anyway, stay tuned to this site for more news every month!

PS - Dont' forget to check out the samples of my work in progress on the MP3 page!!!

12/22/05 - MP3s ARE POSTED.

Hells yeah. Two new samples that are just screamin' "download me!" Okay, fine. I don't have the web skilzz to actually get them to scream that, but you'll feel it in your heart. They're doing it. Just click your mouse 3 times and say, there's no place like the mp3 page... there's no place like the mp3 page... (Holidays = "The Wizard of Oz" on TV again = me making ancient pop culture references. What, you thought I'd be quoting Arrested Development? Please. I'm no Bob Loblaw.)

There's more? DAMN RIGHT THERE'S MORE! Just wouldn't be the holidays without a new Christmas song from Turd Ferguson, would it? Okay, it surely would, but why not see if things get a little brighter when you download their new song "This Is Your Crusty Christmas Present" for free? Eh? Free? Not bad, eh? Who loves ya? That's right. The Turd loves ya. So, have at it: http://www.myspace.com/turdfergusonmusic. And have a WONDERFUL HOLIDAY. See ya next year.

10/11/05 - NOW ON MYSPACE

Yes, you read that right. Run, don't walk, to http://www.myspace.com/marknicholasmusic to read my blog and expand your network of "friends"! Yes, I'll approve even YOUR request. I have no standards. ;-) Sure, there isn't really any significant news on there that you couldn't read right here, but what the hell, right? I do write unique blather in that blog from time to time, and maybe some small piece of it will amuse you. You can even view a pretty picture of me while it plays you a pretty little song. Awww. And who knows? Next time you check it, it might be a NEW song!

Okay, it's not a new song yet. But it will be in December, as promised. (The new samples will be on this site, too.) I really can guarantee this promise because I already have 4 songs absolutely complete, and I'm well into tracks 5 and 6. I'll have plenty to choose from come December. More news around that time. Stay tuned!

9/14/05 - SLOW BUT STEADY...

Writing and recording this album has been nothing if not unpredictable. I've tried to follow certain working patterns - set invisible deadlines for myself as I always have - but I shed them like dandruff. No, nothing's really gone according to plan. But it is exactly this factor that's making things so interesting. Currently I'm working on several songs at the same time, and they are all rather different.

One (called "Don't Say It") has a pretty serious house/techno vibe... crossed with a bassline Nitzer Ebb would've called lovely. Did I mention it has no verse/chorus structure at all?

Then there's one (called "I Wish") designed for clubs where slow grinding is still in fashion. Think Cosmicity's "I Want You" meets today's production values.

Oh, and then there's my newest (called "Perhaps a Slight Drop" - lyrics now available on the mp3 page) which carries a slow, moody vibe that I think stretches the limits of what you might be expecting to hear on this album.

What does all of this mean? It means that, though the samples you've heard are pretty raucous in nature and lay the groundwork for an album full of similarly raucous tunes, I humbly suggest that you might want to expect a wider reach; one that touches many sub-genres of electronic music. Where "Green" and "Backlash" are both in the Indie Electronica vibe, "Don't Say It" will probably be identifiably Techno in nature. "Perhaps A Slight Drop" is leaning toward identifiably Downtempo (as is a song called "Selective Memory Loss"), and I've got other tracks touching Trance, Hardcore, Hip Hop, and Industrial. In short, expect electro-diversity.

More MP3 samples? Had to put that notion off for a bit. I've got lots of songs that are 70% done, which isn't close enough for previews. Gimme a couple more months and I'll come through. I GUARANTEE there'll be new stuff here for you to listen to before the holidays.

PS - I DID finish the song "Perverse" that I spoke about last update, but I'm unhappy with the quality of the mix. I will polish it up so it can be included as part of the holiday preview.

8/3/05 - WHAT EXACTLY AM I DOING?
Truth is, I can't say with certainty that I really know what I'm doing. I was feeling like maybe I did. Maybe I was running on autopilot now that I've got 2 songs "in the can" as they say. Then I started on song #3 ("Perverse"). I've been working on it relentlessly. And now, 50 versions later, I THINK I'm finally getting it. Long road! But the good news is that, eventually, I'm finding my way. This album may be a long road for me, and a long wait for you guys, but it's the right road. So, I expect to put the finishing touches on "Perverse" in the next few days. Then on to a little song called "Selective Memory Loss" (used to be called Denial). I've set deadline for myself to have that song done by the end of August, which will put my total at 4 down - 6 to go. Not that bad, right? Almost half way!

5/31/05 - HEAR THE MUSIC RIGHT NOW!

WHEW! I just made it. My self imposed deadline was to have mp3s up on this site by the end of May. Well... I did it! And I SO love being a man of my word.

Please enjoy, with my compliments, a couple of two minute mp3 samples from the forthcoming album "Duchess 33". Grab them here--> http://www.marknicholas.org/mp3.html .

Hate 'em? Love 'em? I'm all ears. (Not literally. That'd just be gross.) info@marknicholas.org.

(PS - Want to see how I got here? Then you've gotta see the feature-length documentary DVD (called "2 Camcorders and an iMac") included free with "Definitive", the best-of Cosmicity CD! Get yourself a copy today!)

3/18/05 - WHAT THE?

Don't worry. I'm still alive, and indeed, kicking. Ass, that is. Never you mind whose ass. That's for me to know, and you to pretend like you know in front of your friends who think little-known one-man Electro artists are cool. ;-)

Though I've not got the promised mp3s for you at this time (I HATE breaking promises, but I'm afraid this one can be blamed squarely on my day-job for sending me out of town for the entire month of February) , things are still happening in Electroland. So, sit back and feast your eyes on this:

"Duchess 33"

What is that? A military code name? Hacker jargon? The new Bond villain? NO! It's my porn name. Kinda sucks, don't it? My first dog's name was Duchess... and I grew up on 33 Mile Road. Hence, that is my porn star name! (For those of you not "in the know", that is how the "give yourself a porn name" game is played.) Anyway, Bad Porn Name, I'd like you to meet Cool Album Title.

That's right. It's the name of the forthcoming Mark Nicholas album. Why? Because so much of this new album is a response to the conservative atmosphere in this country right now. And, in fact, a few of the songs are a direct reply to the nasty comments made about yours truly after A Different Drum declined to release my "2 Camcorders and an iMac" DVD for "content" reasons. (They say NC-17, I say PG-13. Tomato Tomaaaaato. Either way, that DVD will be packaged with the Cosmicity "Definitive" Best-of album coming out next week on Kiss My Asterix Records. Order now!)

Anyway, they call me a porn dealer, I give them my porn name. "Duchess 33". Coming to a store near you at the end of this year.

And just WAIT 'til they hear the lyrics to my first song "Green"! Call me a "potty mouth" (there's a fun discussion thread on slothradio.com where they do just that), and I will deliver. I've committed to publishing this track on the upcoming "Electricity 3" compilation on Ninthwave Records. It's due May 15th, so I'd suspect you'll be able to buy your very own copy in June! Of course, I will post links to the various online retailers at that time.

Now, what about some freakin' MP3s gettin' published on this site?! Good question. I'm still going to do it. I'm just off my timing a bit. I'm now saying the first one will appear early in May, with a couple more to follow shortly thereafter. Cool? Cool.

Now, it's time to get back into my studio, grab a filter cutoff knob and turn, baby... TURN!!!

More news as it comes in. Check back often. And remember, I typically post new lyrics as soon as I think of 'em, so you never know what you might find on the "MP3" page!

11/5/04 - THE NEW SOUND BUILDS

Yep, I'm still working on writing the new songs. Lots of cool stuff coming. Here's a description I wrote to a friend on Live Journal that I thought was pretty good and worth sharing:

The material that I've written over the past 6 months or so is very promising. I'd say there are at least 5 songs so far that I'm VERY excited about and will be more than proud to release. The sound? Think: Cosmicity meets the production values of the current Miss Kitten or Prodigy albums, and then mixes in some dark and downtempo songwriting flavor. Plus, for a limited time only, added grit on everything! No payments until 2005! (It's not like rock guitar grit... more like, cool electro / early NIN-styled grit). There's not much in the way of straight 4-on-the-floor dance music at all. (I've got one song that would meet that description, and my guess is that'll I'll end up cutting it 'cause it's the thing that's closest to a "predictable" Cosmicity track, and Cosmicity is SO last year.) Also, overall, there's a far more broken / grinding rhythmic flavor to most of the songs.

There ya have it folks. My most current attempt at putting my new sound into words. But honestly, new sounds are best expressed with, well, sound. I'm gonna make good on that promise to post mp3 samples here. Hell, I'd probably have them posted already, but the fact is, I own an Xbox. They damand an astounding amount of attention!

PS - The Cosmicity "Definitive" best-0f CD/DVD project is back to life. It will be released February 2005 on Los Angeles, CA-based Kiss My Asterix Records.

8/4/04 - MY VERY FIRST UPDATE

It is my pleasure to post a success story as my first bit of news on this website. Since finishing my final chapter as Cosmicity, I've been working on developing a new sound and a new direction for my music. Part of that exploration has involved working with two very talented friends, DJ Ginger Snapp (my wife), and Jamie Latendresse (designer of all-things-Cosmicity and future designer for Mark Nicholas stuffs) every Tuesday evening. They both have more diverse influences than I do (they listen to cool music that isn't always from the 80's), and I knew working with them would be a good creative push. In exchange for their good taste, they get to learn a little Music Technology (programming a drum machine, playing a cool bass line) stuff from me. Le'me tell ya, they learn quick!

One of the things we did on these fateful Tuesdays was a remix for the Alt/Downtempo band Lamb. We entered our work in their remix contest for kicks (under the name MITSU, which is Japanese for "3"), and wouldn't ya know it? We made the cut - from hundreds of entries down to ten finalists. Now the public is voting for the overall winner, and that's where you come in!. Please follow the link below to check out our remix and the remixes of the other finalists. If you like ours (it's called the MITSU MIX), please give us a vote, won't you?
